F-Gas Company Certification

From 4 July 2009 it became a legal requirement for all businesses that install, maintain or service stationary refrigeration, air-conditioning and/or heat pump equipment containing or designed to contain F-Gas refrigerants to obtain an F-Gas Company Certificate.

The Environment Agency enforces F Gas Regulations and checks compliance. Refcom collaborates with the EA for better compliance and enforcement. Since July 2011, businesses must hold a Full Company Certificate, but those who missed the deadline can apply for a Stationary Equipment Qualification Company Certificate.

Refcom was the body Defra consulted with for advice on the creation of a company certification scheme. Whilst others have adopted the current company certification scheme, Refcom continues to maintain it’s leading position in this sector, and has the vast majority of certificated businesses.

To obtain a Full company certificate, businesses must:

  • Employ sufficient numbers of personnel holding a full personnel qualification to cover expected volume of in-scope activities; and
  • Have the necessary tools and procedures for the personnel to carry out the in-scope activities that require certification
